Breastfeeding Celebration Day  

Women, Infants and Children (WIC) & Nutrition

The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) is a federal nutrition program funded by the USDA.  WIC provides the following free services:

  • Breastfeeding Support
  • Breast pump loan program for qualified mothers
  • Referrals for Health Care
  • Florida Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program coupons

 

ELIGIBILITY

  • Pregnant Women
  • Breastfeeding Women (until infants first birthday)
  • Women who have had a baby (until infants are six months old)
  • Infants and Children under the age of five
  • Must meet certain income guidelines
  • Must have a nutrition related need determined by the WIC nutritionist
  • Must live in Florida

 

PARTICIPATION

  • Improves the dietary intake of pregnant women and children.
  • Reduces the incidence of low birth weight babies.
  • Reduces infant mortality.
  • Reduces the incidence of anemia.
  • Improves cognitive brain development.
  • Increases breastfeeding rates among a population of women who are least likely to breastfeed.
