The Special Supplemental
Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC)
is a federal nutrition program funded by the USDA. WIC provides the
following free services:

- Healthy Foods
- Nutrition Education
- Breastfeeding Support
- Breast pump loan program for qualified mothers
- Referrals for Health Care
- Florida Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program

ELIGIBILITY
- Pregnant Women
- Breastfeeding Women (until infants first
birthday)
- Women who have had a baby (until infants are
six months old)
- Infants and Children under the age of five
- Must meet certain income guidelines
- Must have a nutrition related need determined
by the WIC nutritionist
- Must live in Florida
PARTICIPATION
- Improves the dietary intake of pregnant women
and children.
- Reduces the incidence of low birth weight
babies.
- Reduces infant mortality.
- Reduces the incidence of anemia.
- Improves cognitive brain development.
- Increases breastfeeding rates among a
population of women who are least likely to breastfeed.
